The longest day has gone, the sun is doing its best to brighten up our days, though I think we have had more rain than I can remember for quite some years. That said, it does look like we are coming out of these interminable lockdowns, hopefully for good. We really hope that our leaders are following the scientific data and advice. Certainly, the vaccine and its associated jab programme have been a godsend and give us all hope for the future. If nothing else the pandemic shows that life is both fragile and needs to be lived to its full, no matter what our ages.Dementia is personal and remains a key focus area for us, and we have been perplexed at the government’s lack of follow through on upping the funding for dementia research, especially given that it also supports the covid recovery and helps a cohort that has been severely impacted by the pandemic. That said there have also been several exciting scientific announcements and it certainly seems like relatively good progress is being made. Again’ hopefully the learnings from the pandemic will help accelerate the research effort into this debilitating condition.Boldies, as we exit lockdown and reflect on the past year, lets ensure we remain calmer, more supportive, and kinder to each other, build on the community spirit that has thrived during the pandemic and focus on the future. A future that no matter what our age is for living to the fullest, in the knowledge that age is no barrier to attaining our life goals and ambitions.
