Age is just a number!

Following the popularity our ‘Age is no barrier article’, here are more instances of people performing amazing feats in later life.

There are so many great examples of how to live a bold lifestyle, and they are not just restricted to physical feats. 20% and 15% of all scientific and academic output derives from those aged between 70 and 79.

Did you know that J.R.R Tolkien was aged 62 when the first volume of Lord of the Rings was published? This went on to be one of the best-selling novels ever written, translated into 38 languages and with over 150 million copies sold to date.

Proving that you can still learn at any age. Australian, Allan Stewart completed his law degree aged 91 years at the University of New England, Australia. He then received his masters at the age of 97. He says, ‘it’s never too late to expand your mind, make new friends and challenge yourself to achieve something worthwhile’. We couldn’t agree more.

Retired Lt. Col. James C. Warren is a former navigator in the United States armed forces. After a decorated career in the military, at the age of 87 he became the oldest person in the world to receive his pilot’s license.

Extreme sports are not just for the younger generation. Mohr Keet was aged 96 when he performed his final bungee jump in South Africa, the jump had a drop of 708 feet! At the time he was unaware that he had broken a world record, doing it just for fun!

Finally, proving that age is really no barrier to doing what you love, just ask Frank Schearer. Aged 100 years, he’s still water-skiing. A retired physician, he puts his long and healthy life down to the fact that he has always been active. ‘I’ve been active my whole life, from one sport to the other sport – snow-skiing in the winter, water-skiing in the summer, hunting, fishing and in recent years, weight training regularly.’ Frank really knows how to live, stating ‘I’ve made 100 and it’s been a good life. I think I’ll sign up for another 100’.

Don’t let your age define you, show your positive attitude and spirit! **Be BOLD.**
