In 1939 the Wizard of Oz premiered in Los Angeles; in 1945 Emperor Hirohito announced surrender ending WWII; in 1947 India gained independence from the UK; in 1971 Bahrain gained independence from the UK. In 1995 The Macarena by Los del Rio was released.
Can you remember the words to The Macarena?
The song, by Los del Rio, was about a woman called Macarena. It actually appeared on an album in 1993, called "a mi me gusta" but became a hit in 1995 when it was released as a single in the Bayside Boys mix. Los del Rio were travelling South America in the early 90s and while in Venezuela they attended a private party. A local flamenco teacher performed for the guests and Antonio (one of the Los del Rio members) started reciting the chorus, changing the name of the dancer to Macarena in order to honor the Antonio's daughter.
It was the number 1 "greatest one-hit wonder of all time" according to VH1. It came in at number 8 in the US Billboard Hot 100 in their All-time charts.
We hope you enjoy having this song stuck in your head for the rest of the day. You're welcome.
and yes, it can be done sitting down as this dance group for seniors in Portugal shows
