There's only one calendar right?

In Great Britain Wednesday September 2, 1752 was followed by Thursday September 14 due to a correction needed to bring Great Britain into the Gregorian calendar. Prior to the Gregorian calendar Great Britain was using the Julian calendar; except in Scotland who had adopted the Gregorian calendar in 1600.

Gregorian calendar

Named after Pope Gregory XIII, it was introduced in October of 1582. Using leap years the calendar has an average year of 365.2425 days, an approximation of the year as determined by the revolution of the Earth around the Sun. When introduced, Thursday October 4, 1582 was followed by Friday October 15, 1582. At the same time the lunar cycle was altered so that the date of Easter was returned to the same tim eof year as originally celebrated by the early church.

Julian calendar - it's the 20th of August today

Proposed by Julius Caesar in 46BCE it was a take on the Roman calendar and came into effect on the 1st of January 46BC. Designed by Greek mathematicians and astronomers it had 2 types of year - a normal year of 365 days and a leap year of 366 days. Following a cycle of 3 normal years and 1 leap year giving an average of 365.25 - resulting in the additional day every 128 years.
