任天堂株式会社 - Nintendo Kabushiki Gaisha
Nintendo was founded on the 23rd of September, 1889 by Fusajiro Yamauchi in order to market his handmade playing cards used in a game called hanafuda. That makes Nintendo 131 years old and employs 6,200 people.
Hanafuda translates as 'flower cards'.
There are 12 suits, one for each month of the year with each month being designated by a flower (hence the name flower cards) and each month having 4 cards. The cards are shuffled and dealt out as 8 cards. The dealer goes first with the aim being that the cards are reduced down to four each.
