    On this day In 1986 The final section of the M25 was opened. It's hard to believe now and possibly even then that the motorway was designed and built to reduce the traffic congestion within London. In 1843 the world saw the first telegram which was sent, from Paddington to Slough.In 1988 Sebastian Coe and Steve Cram, re-ran the 367 metre ‘Chariots of Fire’ race around the Great Court at Trinity College, Cambridge. Sebastian Coe won in 45.52 seconds. Both were eclipsed by Lord Burghley who won the original race in a time of 42.5 seconds.On the 29th October 1929 the world experienced a stock market crash, nicknamed Black Tuesday. The crash heralded the start of the Great Depression. The spacecraft Galileo passes the asteroid Gaspra becoming the first probe to investigate an asteroid. On its way to Jupiter it would go onto meet another asteroid, Ida some two years later.
